Stat shows Bruno is Europe's best creator

Bruno Fernandes continues to rack up impressive figures during this period of stellar form for Manchester United.

Our skipper scored for the fifth successive match for the first time since joining the Reds from Sporting Club in Lisbon when his double inspired a 4-2 victory against Sheffield United in midweek.

The 29-year-old contributed seven goals in those five games and also converted his penalty in the shootout at Wembley last weekend.

However, it is his ability to create chances that is really setting him apart from his peers, in the Premier League and across Europe.

Bruno Fernandes is our top scorer in 2023/24 with 15 goals: watch them all here…

Our no.8 teed up Rasmus Hojlund for the clincher against the Blades and it was his corner that was headed home by Harry Maguire against the Sky Blues last Sunday.

Opta have analysed his contribution in this area and confirmed Fernandes stands alone when it comes to creating chances - his next one, hopefully against Burnley on Saturday, will be his 100th of the Premier League campaign.

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is next best, some eight behind, while it is encouraging to see a former United Academy graduate also on the list, in the shape of Fulham's Andreas.

CHANCES CREATED IN 2023/24 PREMIER LEAGUE

99: Bruno Fernandes (UNITED)
91: Martin Odegaard (Arsenal)
90: Pascal Gross (Brighton & Hove Albion)
82: Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)
80: Andreas (Fulham)

It is not only domestically where Bruno stands out, though, as he also outscores everyone in Europe's top-five leagues when you consider output across all competitions this term.

Of course, with United not in European competition since December, it is an impressive achievement for the captain, as he is currently 20 chances clear of second-placed Ilkay Gundogan, who moved to Barcelona after his two goals for Manchester City against Erik ten Hag's men in last year's Emirates FA Cup final.

CHANCES CREATED 2023/24 (ALL COMPETITIONS)

140: Bruno Fernandes (UNITED)
120: Ilkay Gundogan (Barcelona)
116: Pascal Gross (Brighton & Hove Albion)
106: Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen), Kevin Stoger (Bochum)

Why the skipper's superb showing was significant in terms of his United figures.

Fernandes usually scores highly in this metric, as he is the creative force in the United side, and will be looking to finish the month strongly, when Vincent Kompany's Burnley come to Manchester for Saturday's 15:00 BST kick-off.

The Portugal international scored a belter, volleying home Jonny Evans's raking pass, to settle the corresponding fixture at Turf Moor last September.
