Vote for United Women's April Player of the Month

Tuesday 30 April 2024 14:00

The vote is now open to crown United Women's Player of the Month for April.

Marc Skinner's side played three matches across a month that wasn't short of action, with United winning two and drawing one and progressing to the final of the Women's FA Cup in the process.

Our first April match came on its 14th day, as we beat Chelsea in the semi-final of the aforementioned competition to reach Wembley for the second consecutive season.

A 2-2 draw against Spurs followed in the Women's Super League, before Skinner's side capped the month with a 1-0 victory over Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

Mary Earps, Maya Le Tissier and Ella Toone make up our three-player shortlist for April, and you can read about each's contribution below before casting your vote in our fan poll.

MARY EARPS: 3 apps / 1 clean sheet

Queen of stops, Mary certainly lived up to that mantra in April.

The England international finished the month with a clean sheet against Leicester but that FA Cup tie against Chelsea will always be remembered for the sublime acrobatics Earps showed to deny the Blues and ensure the Reds reached Wembley once more.

Mary defied physics to claw Lauren James's goalbound header away, a save that greatly contributed to what was a historic victory against Emma Hayes's side.

In the draw against Spurs a week later, Earps even joined United's attack as we searched for a late leveller and, while she didn't personally get it, the Reds persevered eventually and Le Tissier gained a last-gasp point.

MAYA LE TISSIER: 3 apps / 1 goal / 1 clean sheet

As mentioned above, Maya was on the scoresheet in April as she got the telling touch late on against Spurs to rescue a point for the Reds at Leigh Sports Village.

The 22-year-old is always willing to put her body on the line and that very desire was what led to her goal against the Lilywhites.

Maya also played a key role in defence for United in the victory over Chelsea, once again leaving everything out there on the pitch, and contributing to the clean sheet at Leicester.

All in all, not a bad month for the centre-back, who signed a new contract at the club in April too.

ELLA TOONE: 3 apps / 1 goal / 1 assist

Just two days ago, Ella's second-half rocket clinched victory for the Reds at the King Power Stadium. Tooney received the ball on the edge of the box and arrowed it into the top corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance at all.

This capped another impressive month for our no.7, whose precise cross created the opportunity for Rachel Williams to power a header past Hannah Hampton in the FA Cup semi-final victory over Chelsea.

Winner of the PFA's WSL Fans' Player of the Month in March, Tooney is vying to win our Player of the Month award for the third time, following consecutive accolades in December and January.
