Berba to face Bayern?

Put yourself in Sir Alex's shoes and tell us what side and formation you'd select, and what you'd say in your team talk.

Post your thoughts in our Talking Reds thread on the following points:

- Team and formation
- Tactical approach
- Manager's message to the players
- Score prediction

The debate will continue right up until kick-off in Munich, so why not have your say?

Your team and tactics

Since that dramatic night in the Nou Camp in 1999 against Tuesday’s opponents, the Reds have faced Bayern Munich in four competitive matches – failing to win on every occasion.

United would love nothing more than to end that sequence at the Allianz Arena, but it won't be easy. So we asked you on Monday how you think the Reds should approach the first leg in Munich.

Should Sir Alex go for the tried and trusted 4-5-1 formation that has served us so well in Europe this season, or should the in-form Dimitar Berbatov be given the chance to partner Wayne Rooney in a 4-4-2 system?

Many of you responded on Talking Reds – and judging by the following sample of posts, 4-5-1 is your preferred option...

Welsh Ryan Fan
My team: Van der Sar, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Valencia, Park, Carrick, Fletcher, Giggs, Rooney.
Tactical approach: The formation would be a 4-3-3 offensive line-up, which can switch to a defensive 4-5-1. I have included Park in the line up to stop the threat of Ribery and Lahm, and having Giggs in the team gives us the discipline on the right and will reduce the amount of work Valencia has to do in defence. Ryan's experience here, doubling up with Evra, will reduce the threat.
My message: Keep it simple, be patient and be strong. Bayern will have periods in the game where they will have lots of possession. Keeping tight as a unit will allow us to keep them out, and we have the skill and pace to be a real threat on the counter.
Score prediction: 1-0 to United.

My team: (4-2-3-1) Van der Sar, Neville, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Fletcher, Scholes, Valencia, Giggs, Nani, Rooney.
Tactical approach: We need to dominate midfield and ensure that Robben and Ribery are not allowed to cut inside from the flanks. Be aware of Van Bommel from long range. Scholes and Giggs should use their experience to orchestrate play from midfield and Rooney needs to make his usual intelligent runs and pressurise the Bayern defenders. Valencia and Nani will dominate the Bayern full-backs and hopefully provide Rooney with plenty of service to secure the all-important away goal.
My message: Don't allow Robben and Ribery to get in behind the defence. Don't give possession away because Bayern
