From the moment Matt Derbyshire gave the visitors a shock lead on 29 minutes, the Theatre of Dreams became a cauldron of noise which Sir Alex later described as “the best atmosphere in years.”
Paul Scholes levelled with a low effort just after the hour before fellow string-puller Michael Carrick picked his spot through the crowd just 12 minutes later. It was game over as Ji-Sung Park side-footed home with the game heading to its climax before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer found time to score on the stroke of full-time.
"If United go on to claim their ninth Premiership title in 15 years, outstanding goals from Scholes and Carrick will become part of club folklore,” praised the Daily Mail’s Joe Bernstein.
