Manchester United 4 Dynamo Kyiv 0 | Champions League | Wednesday 7 November 2007
Much has changed in five years, as evidenced by the first-half scorers; Gerard Pique bagged the first of two career goals for the Reds on his first Champions League start when, on 31 minutes, he headed home at the far post. Carlos Tevez quickly added another as he steered a shot into the roof of the net.
Dynamo's players were understandably wary of United’s attacking prowess and refused to emerge from their shells. As was often the case en route to European glory in Moscow, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo proved insatiable. Rooney expertly side-footed in Nani’s cross after 76 minutes, while Ronaldo – never happy out of the spotlight – saved the best till last. Racing onto Patrice Evra’s pass, he turned his marker adroitly before smashing the ball into the far corner. Job done.
United: Van der Sar (Kuszczak 46); Simpson, Pique (Evans 73), Vidic, Evra; Ronaldo, Carrick, Fletcher, Nani; Rooney, Tevez (Saha 67). Scorers: Pique 31, Tevez 37, Rooney 76, Ronaldo 88.
