After United's thrilling win over SC Braga, Portuguese football expert Tom Kundert, of www.portugoal.net, looks ahead to the sides' reconvention at Estadio AXA...
What was the reaction in Portugal to the game at Old Trafford?
A lot of pride. The press and fans were full of praise for Braga, especially as the statistic that a Portuguese side had never won at Old Trafford was widely reported beforehand. It seemed for a while that Braga would become the first! But it's telling that there was no real sense of a missed opportunity. Braga know that in facing United it's an unbalanced playing field; the club's entire budget for 2012/13 is around 17 million Euros. United spent over three times that just in transfer fees on their summer reinforcements.
What will Braga have learned from our first meeting?
They will have learned that they have the weapons to hurt United. Éder and Alan in particular showed they can cause problems if given the ball in advanced areas of the pitch. The midfielders also did a fine job of retaining possession in the first half, but Braga struggled to contain United when the hosts upped the tempo. Therefore I think Braga will aim to control the pace of the game better this time.
What will they want to do differently?
Tighten up defensively, control the pace of the game better and seek to retain good possession of the ball for the whole game rather than just one half of it. On point one, their cause will be helped if first-choice centre-back Douglão is back. He's more reliable than Nuno André Coelho.
How much pressure is on Braga to come out and attack United?
Not much. The expected result is a United win. If Braga can get anything out of the game it's a bonus. They know the fight for qualification is a three-horse race and success or lack of it in this competition will depend on how they do against Cluj and Galatasaray.
