United turned on the style in the second half to rack up four goals without reply against Wigan Athletic.

Paul Scholes opened the floodgates on his 700th appearance for the club with Javier Hernandez doubling the lead from close range after seeing an early penalty saved by Ali Al-Habsi.

Debutants Alexander Büttner and Nick Powell got in on the act to take the Reds up to second place in the Barclays Premier League table.

Club photographers John and Matt Peters and others from Getty Images were at Old Trafford to take the best shots of the action as it unfolded - check out our gallery.
