Sunday's tense 2-1 victory ended a five-year wait for Manchester United's tenth Premier League win at Anfield.
The scorer who sealed the visitors' return to winning ways, Robin van Persie, can now be bracketed with other backyard nemeses of the Reds' arch-rivals - the likes of Brian McClair, who nodded in the winner when United's first Premier League visit to Anfield, in March 1993, finished 2-1 in his team's favour.
Andy Cole's goal made it 3-1 to the away team in April 1997, and the striker did the same eight months later after David Beckham had curled home a glorious free-kick. Cole also scored in the 3-2 triumph at Anfield in September 1999, although the second of two Jamie Carragher owngoals was effectively United's winner.
Diego Forlan's memorable double in December 2002 (United won 2-1) was followed by a pair for Ryan Giggs (2-1) in November 2003. The fashionable scoreline then became 1-0 with Wayne Rooney (2004/05), John O'Shea (2006/07) and Carlos Tevez (2007/08) taking it in turns to separate the teams on Merseyside.
