Rovers took an early lead when Andy Robinson's shot deceived Tomasz Kuszczak and hit an upright and Mark McChrystal had the simple task of converting the rebound. Kuszczak was by far the busier of the two keepers and, after making a string of saves, he produced an outstanding double-stop to deny skipper John Welsh and Adam McGurk.
It enabled United to level matters on 34 minutes when a four-man move involving Darron Gibson, Danny Drinkwater and John Cofie ended with Lingard side-footing in via a post from the edge of the box.
There was an escape when Robbie Weir thumped the bar with a shot that looked a goal all the way just before the half-time interval. Rovers proved rugged opponents but the Reds shaded the second half as the midfield started to clinck and function better as a team. There were few chances although the hosts probably had the clearest openings but were unable to find a way past the excellent Kuszczak.
The first draw of the six friendlies played so far also allowed Pogba to continue to impress while Drinkwater is clearly playing with more authority after returning from his loan spells away from the club.
United: Kuszczak; M.Keane, Cole, McGinty, Fryers; Drinkwater, Gibson (Petrucci 46), Norwood, Pogba, Lingard; Cofie (W.Keane 55).
