Scouting: Manuel Neuer

Talking Reds scout BFC Samwell reckons the German keeper would be an ideal replacement for Edwin van der Sar...

Player name: Manuel Neuer
Team: Germany, Schalke
Position: Goalkeeper
Age: 23

Match Scouted: Germany 1 Italy 0, 26 June 2009

Key Moment: His stunning reflex saves from Giovinco and Motta in quick succession. Further excellent stops followed from Motta again, Cigarini and Balotelli as Germany held out to book their place in the final against England.

Strengths: Tall, good reflexes and comfortable at coming for crosses.

Weaknesses: From what I have seen, he is already a fantastic keeper with a lot of experience under his belt. But every player can always improve.

Suitability: I think he could easily replace Van Der Sar. He produced some brilliant displays during Schalke's 2007/08 Champions League campaign when the German side reached the last eight. Has already represented his country at senior level and has the experience of being a No.1 with Schalke which would aid his progression at Old Trafford.

Estimated Cost
: I don't know how much he is valued at or whether Schalke would sell. Neuer is contracted to the club until 2012, but if United came in with a decent offer what player would not want to join.
