Sir Alex Ferguson praised opposite number Gary Megson in his pre-match press conference, insisting criticism of the Bolton boss "beggars belief."

The United manager agreed with a suggestion that Saturday's visitors are a "better team than people give them credit for" and said:

"Bolton are a similar kind of side to Sunderland – they are very determined, a typical Gary Megson team, they never give in. We know what we’re facing.

"After the disappointment of drawing with Sunderland, this is an important game for us. It’s a game we want to win now."
