Form guide: Everton will be disappointed with their start to the season. On the opening day they were on the wrong end of a 6-1 scoreline against Arsenal, followed by a defeat at newly promoted Burnley. Since then they have won four out of nine games, most recently against West Ham. The Toffees lie in 12th place in the table but have played a game fewer than most teams. United will be looking to banish the memories of Stamford Bridge, a second reversal in three games, and keep up with Chelsea at the top.

Ins and outs: The visitors are still without Phil Jagielka and Mikel Arteta, who have both gone under the knife in recent months. Phil Neville will also be unavailable to face his former side, while Louis Saha, Jo and reported United target Jack Rodwell are doubtful. Leon Osman, Victor Anichebe, Tim Howard and Steven Pienaar complete a long injury list. For the Reds, Jonny Evans (calf) and John O'Shea (both ankle) are fighting to be fit after picking up injuries playing for their countries, but everyone else has come back from international duty unscathed, including Nemanja Vidic and Ji-sung Park. It's still too early for Owen Hargreaves, while Rio Ferdinand, Fabio and Danny Welbeck remain sidelined and Gary Neville is suspended.
