Jonny Evans tells ManUtd.com how it feels to be a champion again…
There is no better feeling than winning the league. This is my third one and I just want to keep building on that.
It was a great night on Monday and it was nice to be 3-0 up by half-time because we kind of knew we had the title in the bag. It was just a case of making sure Villa didn’t score and enjoying the evening. We wanted to score a few more goals but Villa played well in the second half and put us under a bit of pressure at times.
We wanted to go at Villa from the off. In the past we maybe haven’t scored enough goals early on in games. We’d been working on that in training all week, being positive in our forward play and you could see that right from the off against Villa. The work-rate from the lads was fantastic and Villa couldn’t really get out of their own half in that first half.
It was great to see Robin get his goals on Monday. He’s been absolutely fantastic this season. His work-rate and finishing ability are phenomenal. He wants to score goals and he’s disappointed when he doesn’t, even when we get the points. We’re really happy to see him get his first winners’ medal. He came here because of his respect for the philosophy of the club and it’s paid off for him.
He’s lifted everyone at the club. He was captain of Arsenal and obviously a very mature person and very respectful guy – he’s got a bit of an aura about him and has settled in brilliantly. You can tell by the way he plays and his whole demeanour that he is really enjoying things here.
Our away form has been a big factor in helping us win the league. It’s been phenomenal, particularly in the games against the big teams. We’ve won at City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle... those results gave us a big platform to go forward.
