Paint the town red

Manchester United fans came out in force on Monday evening to salute the 2012/13 Barclays Premier League champions and bid farewell to two giants of the game, Sir Alex Ferguson and Paul Scholes.

Tens of thousands of supporters lined the streets and took up every available vantage point to greet the Reds' open-top bus parade as it made its way from Old Trafford to the Town Hall in Albert Square.

Helicopters buzzed around and several roads in Manchester city centre were closed as numerous fans followed the bus on its stately journey.

For Sir Alex, his coaching staff and the players on board, it was an unforgettable evening. The boss, Ryan Giggs and Scholes even declared it eclipsed the Treble parade of 1999.
