Stretford End Season Ticket holder Nick Coppack picks out his favourite games in the 2008/09 fixture list...

Here we go again! Memories of last season’s domestic and European double are still fresh, and yet it’s already time to turn attentions to the 2008/09 campaign. Not that I'm complaining...

Whenever the new fixtures are released, I frantically scour the list for two matches: Liverpool at home and Liverpool away.

Benitez’s boys haven’t featured in the title race in recent years, but there’s still nothing sweeter than steamrolling the Scousers. Last season United managed it twice; a similar feat this time around – the first meeting takes place at Anfield on 13 September – would do wonders for the Reds’ quest to match Liverpool’s record 18 league titles.

The hard work all begins with a visit from Newcastle United on 16 August. Last season the Reds stuttered to a 0-0 draw against Reading on the opening day, but United usually start well. Since the Premier League’s inception, Sir Alex’s sides have won 10 of 16 opening-day fixtures. Only three have ended with the Reds pointless.
