Thursday 30 July (all times are local, 1 hour ahead of UK)

23:01 – Oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be. Congratulations to Bayern – it was certainly a popular victory here in the Allianz Arena. Time to leave you, I'm afraid. I've got a plane to catch back to Manchester. Auf Wiedersehen.

22:55 FT: Bayern win 7-6 on penalties.

For the record, this is how the shootout went (G = goal, M = miss):

Giggs (G), Baumjohann (G), Anderson (G), Braafheid (G), Nani (G), Altintop (G), Evra (M), Pranjic (M), Rooney (G), Sosa (G), Fletcher (G), Ottl (G), Scholes (G), Badstuber (G), Evans (M), van Buyten (G)

22:41 90 mins: Bayern 0-0 United. We're going to penalties. At least we've got a decent record from the spot in recent years. On the other hand, Germans are notoriously good from 12 yards.

22:34 – The change almost worked wonders. In truth, it probably should have: Rooney's just blasted over from about eight yards. He was under a bit of pressure but he'll be disappointed he didn't at least hit the target. Five more minutes of goalless action and we'll see penalties.

22:28 – With 12 minutes left, Sir Alex introduces Wayne Rooney. He's on for Michael Owen, while Anderson replaces Berbatov. Looks like Wazza will play up front on his own for the last 12 minutes.

22:20 – The home side have made a flurry of substitutions (five at once!). As for United, Valencia's on for Gibson and Cathcart for Ferdinand. Jonny Evans has just picked up a knock but I think he'll be able to soldier on. We certainly don't need to lose another defender to injury.
