The Swedish international would provide good cover in United's midfield, says Talking Reds scout Saint John...
Player name: Gustav Svensson
Team: Sweden, IFK Gothenburg
Position: Holding midfielder
Age: 22
Match Scouted: Sweden 3-1 Serbia, 23 June 2009
Key Moment: Another solid display following on from two excellent performances against Italy and Belarus. Has provided good cover for the Swedish defence in all three group games and fired a glorious fifth goal in the 5-1 win over Belarus.
Strengths: No-nonsense style, great work-rate, fast and has a good shot on him. Also able to play at centre-back.
Weaknesses: Lack of big games experience.
Suitability: With Hargreaves still recovering from knee surgery Fletcher is very much alone in that holding role. Carrick can do a job there, but I prefer to see him further forward. Svensson would therefore provide great cover for Hargreaves and Fletch.
Estimated Cost: I think we could get him for around £1-2million.
