In just four weeks' time, I’ll be heading to the Sahara desert with my sleeping bag, walking boots and backpack, ready to tackle sand dunes aplenty all in the name of charity.
Myself and 22 fellow trekkers, including former United players Denis Irwin and Andy Ritchie, will be raising money for the Manchester United Foundation during a week-long excursion and I'll be giving ManUtd.com readers an insight into the experience along the way.
The trek is the brainchild of MUTV presenter Mandy Henry. A special documentary will be screened on the club channel in December.
The expedition will take the group through some challenging environments in which we'll scale peaks and walk through gorges, alongside dry riverbeds and across sandy plains. Most days will consist of at least six hours' walking (in 30 degree heat!), but there will be time to explore the landscape, visit nomadic caves and meet some desert inhabitants.
The trip promises to be a tough, yet extremely exciting adventure, and it's certainly for a great cause.
You can follow the desert adventure via my daily blog on ManUtd.com from 13-20 November and if you want to lend your support to the Foundation, please visit: www.justgiving.com/gemma-thompson
