United have used the Carling Cup to give youngsters and squad players a chance to shine alongside older heads. But Sir Alex admits he's been left pondering exactly how strong his side should be against Manchester City tonight.
It's difficult to anticipate his starting XI, but we'd like to hear what your team would be for tonight's Carling Cup semi-final first leg tie, and also how you'd approach the game.
Post your teams and tactics on Talking Reds. Here's a selection of some of the best comments so far. We'll publish more in the lead-up to kick-off.
"This is my line up: Van der Sar, Rafael, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Valencia, Gibson, Anderson, Park, Rooney, Owen. Craig Bellamy gave us a hard time in September, Rafael is a must at right-back for pace and tenacity in tracking back. Park can help Evra with Wright-Phillips, but should be substituted for Obertan on 60 minutes. Let's not get carried away, a win might be asking too much. A draw will be a good result."

"My team: Van der Sar, Rafael, Vidic, Brown, Evra, Obertan, Carrick, Fletcher, Nani, Rooney, Diouf. I'd start Nani as reward for his display against burnley, give him a chance to build up some form. Obertan is my wildcard, let him try and run the legs out of City's defence, then bring on a fresh Valencia or Park. Diouf's another wildcard but we'll never know how he handles big games if we dont play him."

"My XI would be: Van der Sar, Rafael, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Valencia, Fletcher, Gibson, Nani, Rooney, Owen. Clean sheet against Burnley, so Edwin in goal for me. City's wingers are fast, so I'd go with Evra on the left and Rafael or Fabio at right-back. Sir Alex said he'll stick with youngsters, so Gibson is sure to start and Nani and Owen both need games."
