Brazil's holding midfielder is exactly the sort of player United need.
Cantona4life explains why...
Player name: Ramires Santos do Nascimento
National team: Brazil
Club team: Benfica
Position: Central midfield
Match scouted: Brazil 3-0 Chile, 29 June 2010
Key moment: He's a strong natural holding midfielder, but turned provider for Brazil's third goal with a surging run from the halfway line. Showed true Brazilian flair to ease past several defenders to lay on a pass for Robinho to curl the ball home.
Strengths: He's a strong, composed central midfielder who would fit in perfectly at United in a position we struggled in last season. He's a hard-tackling player, but is also technically gifted and possesses skill and flair in abundance.
Weaknesses: There's always room for improvement, but from what I can see he is not far from being the complete package.
Suitability: He could be an integral part of the future at United, breaking up play and a real driving force behind our attacks.
Estimated cost: He joined Benfica in May 2009 from Cruzeiro for £7.5million. But his progress since means we'd need to spend in the region of £20m. Rumour has it Ramires has a £30m buy-out clause in his contract, but I don't think we would have to go that high if we move quickly. He could be a very shrewd purchase.
