Your questions for Grimes

United Review's series of former players continues with Ashley Grimes, and we’d like you to submit some questions for him.

Born in Dublin in 1957, Grimes began his career with Irish side Bohemians before United snapped him up in 1977.

Between 1977 and 1983, the versatile midfielder made 107 appearances for the Reds, scoring 11 goals. He showed great promise on arrival, but a cruel stroke of luck with injury and illness slowed his progress just when he might have become a first-team regular. However, Grimes did manage to earn an FA Cup winners' medal in 1983, as an unused sub in the final against Brighton, having performed admirably in the semi against Arsenal.

Grimes moved on to Coventry City in 1983 and spent one season at Highfield Road before a more fruitful spell with Luton Town. He picked up a League Cup winners’ medal with the Hatters in 1988 after their shock win over Arsenal.

Ashley tried his luck overseas with Spanish side Osasuna, before finishing as playing career at Stoke City. He then worked as a coach for Stoke and later at Huddersfield Town.
