Rio Ferdinand is urging fans to visit the Absolute Radio website and cast a vote that could net United’s charity partner UNICEF £10,000.
All week, Absolute Radio have urged footballers to call the station and have a quick chat over the phone. When Rio got on the blower, he talked to DJ Christian O’Connell about missing the World Cup, United’s trip to Aston Villa and this rather bizarre picture taken during Wednesday’s Manchester derby.
More than 20 football personalities phoned in during the week, but Rio’s call is one of only five to make the final shortlist. Now the public can vote for their favourite, with the winner getting £10,000 to donate to their chosen charity.
“Manchester United and the players have been supporting UNICEF for more than 10 years,” Rio says. “It’s a fantastic charity, which does terrific work both here in the UK and around the world, but it relies solely on donations to keep going.
“I’d love to be able to donate £10,000 but I need your help. Please visit the Absolute Radio website, listen to my interview and vote for me. You could end up making a big difference.”
Fans can cast their vote over the weekend, with the winner being announced on-air on the morning of Monday 15 November.
