It may be stating the obvious, but Wayne Rooney comes alive on momentous occasions like the one awaiting United at the Etihad.
The Reds’ talisman has tormented our biggest rivals this term: he’s bagged a hat-trick against Arsenal and a brace against Liverpool, notched three in two games against Chelsea and scored home and away against Spurs.
And don’t forget his double in the FA Cup at Eastlands. That took his tally to eight in 16 appearances against City, and United have won all seven derbies in which he’s scored.
The 26-year-old is on a run of 12 goals in his last 11 games; with him in the side, United have a better chance of taking the points on Monday.
