Fans enjoy Kagawa debut

Shinji Kagawa’s competent debut display was one of the encouraging aspects of United’s disappointing 1-0 opening-day defeat to Everton.

Scores of Manchester-based Japanese fans gathered in a bar in the city to watch Shinji’s 90-minute bow at a viewing event hosted by our official Japanese website,

Many supporters sported United shirts with ‘Kagawa 26’ on the back, while others wore traditional kimonos to add to the party atmosphere.

Holding banners they’d designed for the occasion, they were all thrilled by Shinji’s performance at Goodison Park, even though he couldn’t inspire the Reds to victory.

The evening concluded with a prize draw for a United training shirt signed by Shinji, which was won by 19-year-old student Hayato Matsui.
