Phil Jones travelled to the European Championship finals with England but, despite clearly learning plenty from the experience, did not see any time out on the pitch.
It got us thinking about other Reds who were also in an England squad at a major tournament but did not play any minutes in the finals.
11 other players fit the category and one player has done it twice. As an extra clue for a particularly tough teaser, three of the championships involved were in the 1950s. They must have been on United's books at the time of the tournament.
