Scouting: Blaszczykowski

Talking Reds user Shantanu Ambekar's eye was caught by Poland's goalscorer against Russia...

Player name: Jakub Blaszczykowski
National team: Poland
Club team: Borussia Dortmund
Position: Right Midfield
Age: 26
Match scouted: Poland 1-1 Russia (12 June 2012)
Key moment: Scored a cracker to equalise for the co-hosts against Russia.
Strengths: His strength is mainly his pace. He is very quick midfield with high acceleration and can easily trouble the defenders with his pace. He is mainly right footed but can also use the left foot to good extend as he used scored the equaliser yesterday. He likes to get involved in the game a lot and tends to drift in from the wings to the middle to see the more of the ball. He is a team player and true leader. Add to that he is versatile and can play anywhere on the right side of the pitch. He is a player who enjoys playing in the big matches.
Weaknesses: He is good going forward but not good defensively and won't help the right back much while defending. He is not good at taking set-pieces and is not good in the air, so is not a threat at all from the set-pieces.
Suitability: Don't think we need another wide midfielder in the squad as we have good options available. But if one of them decides to leave this summer, then Blaszczykowski could be a very good choice as he has the experience of winning titles with Dortmund and also playing in Champions League.
Estimated cost: Before the Euros, his cost could have been much less but now its looks to have risen, as he has been the star for his country with one assist and one goal in two matches so far. He is rated around €7m by Dortmund but now it would take around €15m-€20m to bring him to Old Trafford.
