d.de gea (not the real one) and vangie filed reports on Portugal's impressive central midfielder...
Player name: Joao Moutinho
National team: Portugal
Club team: FC Porto
Position: Central midfielder
Match scouted: Spain 0 Portugal 0 (Spain won 4-2 on pens) - 27 June 2012
Key moment: Controlled the ball exepctionally well before making a fantastic turn and a great pass through to former United star Cristiano Ronaldo.
Strengths: Moutinho is a great passer of the ball and can also play a decent lobbed through ball. He is a good tackler and you can rely on him to keep the ball. He also has great vision and the ability to play in any position across a flat midfield or diamond formation. A typical box-to-box worker, he can also play in a holding role.
Weaknesses: He could be quicker and is not the best at beating defenders. He sometimes makes mistakes but they're rarely the type that cost you a football match (ignoring his miss in the penalty shoot-out against Spain).
Suitability: With Shinji Kagawa in our midfield, he could occypy the holding role to allow the Japan international more freedom to attack. His dynamic movement would make him a perfect fit for our side.
Estimated cost: Moutinho would probably be available to us at around £30million if we made an offer, which I think is a good price for someone of his talent. He joined Porto from Sporting Lisbon for €11million a couple of years ago.
