That shock defeat for City went some way to making up for the Reds' defeat at home to Blackburn the day before. Nice one Sunderland, let's have another one. (AB)

09:31 Last night I went to the pub with fellow journalist Adam Marshall to watch Schalke v Athletic Club in the Europa League. It took time for the Basque side to get going, but their superior fitness paid dividends again (they covered more ground at Old Trafford than any other side in the past 10 years) as they came back from 2-1 down to win 4-2 in Germany. I have a feeling they could go all the way in the competition. (NC)

09:25 It's an odd week, this one. The press conference, which would usually happen at about this time, was held yesterday instead. Then, to further confuse matters, there's no weekend game to look forward to, either. Instead, we have to wait until Monday night before the Reds are next in action. At least you don't have to wait in order to read what Sky commentator Martin Tyler thinks about United's trip to Blackburn, where Rio Ferdinand is expected to return for the Reds. (NC)
