Today at Old Trafford

17:07 I was lucky enough to speak to Peter Schmeichel, Ruud van Nistelrooy and former chairman Martin Edwards inside the Sir Alex Ferguson stand today. Look out for their comments in the coming days on (AM)

15:07 Our live video stream of the statue unveiling has now ended. We're sorry if you missed it - we'll be showing the edited highlights on later this afternoon. In the meantime, work continues apace as we prepare stories ahead of tomorrow's match against QPR, who sacked Mark Hughes this morning. (AB)

14:34 Philip Jackson said of his latest work of art at Old Trafford (he also sculpted the Sir Matt Busby and United Trinity statues): "I’ve tried to portray him as a man of great determination and as a thinking man, but also with humour which he has in abundance, so there’s just a slight smile in the corner of his mouth. That’s really what I wanted to portray." (AB)

14:30 There was an impressive array of past and present United players in the seated audience outside the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand. Joining the current squad were the likes of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Andy Cole, Denis Irwin, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van der Sar and Eric Cantona. The latter took the adulation in his stride as always, with barely a flicker of emotion in his bearded face when he was introduced to the crowd by ceremony host Eamonn Holmes. (AB)

14:27 Sir Alex was really on form when addressing the crowd earlier. I particularly liked the line about him insisting that his wife, brother, sons, daughters in law and grandchildren come down to Old Trafford on a bus every Saturday morning to worship the statue... (AB)
