Responsible Reds

"My father asked if the players knew the impact that defeats had on fans and how entire weekends could be ruined due to a bad result. Sir Bobby replied that all of United's stars were fully aware of their responsibility in that respect and realised how much the club means to its supporters."

Blog: Chats with Charlton

in the stands.

It's fair to say it was a relevant question back then, considering United's league form over a lengthy period of time. It must seem inconceivable to younger fans that there were doubts over Sir Alex and his position would be questioned later that season. Some of our readers will only have known the consistent pursuit of silverware.

Thinking back to that first meeting with Sir Bobby not only made me feel a little nostalgic but also extremely lucky to have supported the club during this remarkable period of sustained success. There have certainly not been too many miserable days in the past 20 years or so and long may it continue.
