Answers: Youngest debutants

Nick Powell is edging closer to his Barclays Premier League debut after being an unused substitute for last Sunday's win at Southampton.

The former Crewe starlet is still only 18 years old and his appearance on the bench led us to research the youngest players fielded at league level by Sir Alex Ferguson since he took over the reins at Old Trafford in 1986.

By our reckoning, at least 17 players aged the same as Powell have been fielded but only five younger ones aged 17.

The five players in question are listed in the black box, along with the 18-year-olds we could uncover from over the years.

We were referring to league debuts only and unused subs do not count.
