Today at Old Trafford

10:58 I'm heading to the manager's afore-mentioned press conference shortly and I must admit, I'm looking forward to it. I wonder if the assembled journalists and camera crews will form a guard of honour, given this is Sir Alex's first Friday briefing since United won the league? A polite round of applause as he enters the media room, in the Academy building, is perhaps more plausible. (AB)

Intriguingly, the Charity Shield clash with QPR at Stamford Bridge was played a mere two days later. After a 1-1 draw, the replay wasn't played until August. (AM)

16:31 Ben and I attended the launch of United’s new Japanese social gaming partner gloops earlier. Shinji Kagawa, Michael Carrick and Chris Smalling attended; the latter had this to say about Monday's title triumph: "It was a great feeling: after the first half it all tied up nicely. We all celebrated that night and you can see from the photos in the changing rooms how much it meant to us, especially after what happened last season." (JT)
