Reds staff recognised

Five of Manchester United’s longest serving employees were recently recognised by the club's principle sponsors Aon, who presented the group with a variety of gifts during the Reds’ recent 1-0 win over Arsenal.

Andrea Broadbent, Marie Marron, Barry Moorhouse, Paul Smethurst and Kath Phipps were all paraded at Old Trafford and given framed shirts with their number of years of service on the back. In addition, each chose an individual charity for an Aon donation of £1,000.

Kath is the longest serving member of the group having worked at United for 45 years, most commonly as a receptionist at Old Trafford and later the Aon Training Complex. As Rio Ferdinand explains, she is a particular favourite of the players and management.

“Kath epitomises what this club about; it’s a family that look after people who have been here for a long time," Rio told United Review. "She’s part of the furniture here. You walk in here or at Old Trafford and you see her. She still keeps nicking kisses off any man that walks through the doors who is half good looking and half her age! She’s brilliant and the lads love her. Long may it continue that she works here.”

Greg Case, president and CEO of Aon, was proud to honour the group, saying: “These five individuals represent the exceptional dedication and commitment of the team that supports the players on the pitch.”
