Manchester United survived a second-half comeback from Chelsea to stay in the FA Cup after a topsy-turvy quarter final at Old Trafford.
The Reds made a flying start as Javier Hernandez latched onto Michael Carrick’s deliciously floated pass to head over the stranded Petr Cech, who soon conceded a second goal when Wayne Rooney’s free-kick beat everybody to nestle in the back of the net.
Despite holding a commanding lead, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side allowed the visitors back into the game when substitute Eden Hazard bent a shot past David De Gea on 59 minutes before Brazilian midfielder Ramires capped a fine counter attack to level moments later.
The closing stages were nervy with several United players looking tired after Tuesday’s taxing defeat to Real Madrid and, in the end, a draw was perhaps a welcome result for the Reds, who now travel to Stamford Bridge with a semi-final tie against Manchester City up for grabs.
Club photographers John and Matt Peters and fellow snappers from Getty Images were on hand to capture the players in action and you can view a gallery of pics by clicking on the main photo above.
