Match stewards honoured

Five stewards who share 125 years' experience of working at Old Trafford on matchdays were recently awarded commemorative watches in recognition of their unrelenting service to Manchester United.

Robert Smith, Gary Hilton, John Hall, Derek Jackson and Nigel France have all worked at United matches for 25 years and received their special gifts beside the hallowed turf.

While their good work will sometimes go unnoticed by fans inside the Theatre of Dreams, United’s chief operating officer Michael Bolingbroke was keen to thank the time-served stewards for their loyal service.

Speaking to United Review following the presentation, he said: “As always I am very proud to recognise Robert, Gary, John, Derek and Nigel who together with their colleagues dedicate themselves throughout the year to the club, come rain or shine!

“To have done so consistently for a quarter of a century is testament to their loyalty and passion.  I thank them all for their dedication and look forward to seeing them at Old Trafford for many more years to come.”
