Edwin van der Sar
Rarely troubled, but was on hand to make two important saves from Kenny Miller and Steven Naismith in each half. Looked confident in possession and never looked like conceding.

John O’Shea
The versatile Irishman was typically steady at right-back and showed great enthusiasm and desire to get forward and flank Nani.

Chris Smalling
Despite partnering Evans for the first time, Smalling looked calm and confident at the heart of defence. The England U21 star continues to impress and is yet to concede in four Champions League starts.

Jonny Evans
With just Kenny Miller to contend with, it was a quiet game for Jonny. His first start with Smalling at centre-half proved successful and bodes well for the future.

The young Brazilian was tremendous on the left flank and showed no signs of inexperience, despite making just his 18th appearance for United. Won the penalty for the Reds and was a strong candidate for Man of the Match.

One of the winger's quieter nights, but he never let his head drop. Worked well with O’Shea down the flank and supplied a couple of dangerous crosses.

Paul Scholes
The 36-year-old was given far too much time and space by the Rangers midfield as he sprayed the ball around with ease. Linked up well with Carrick before being substituted for Anderson after 67 minutes.
