Anfield as it happened

58' Welbeck is furious after being barged over inside the box by Aspas. No penalty - but manager Moyes seems to share his forward's view of the incident.

57' Carrick picks Young out with two superb passes but the hosts hold firm. Evra had a shot blocked after a Mignolet punch but the Belgian keeper still needs to be given more to do.

53' Much better from the Reds. After some nice work by Welbeck and Young, Giggs frees Valencia with a fine ball. The right-back stays on his feet and wins another corner, which is fisted clear by Mignolet.

50' Valencia shows great strength and Young ends up allowing van Persie to see a shot deflect wide. After a couple of corners, Young has an effort blocked when two home players get in each other's way.

48' The home fans are baying for blood as Aspas makes the most of a foul by Carrick, another player on a yellow card. Thankfully, referee Mariner shows common sense and just has a word with the England international.

47' Johnson heads a deep Giggs cross behind for a corner with Young lurking. Young's flag-kick comes to nothing, however, and Liverpool regroup.

46' No surprise that van Persie is jeered on his return to the pitch. The striker must be careful as the home fans and players will be shouting for a second yellow card for his every move. No more substitutions and we're underway again.

Half time: Liverpool 1 United 0

45+2' After a couple of confrontations with Skrtel and Gerrard, van Persie is playing a dangerous game as he's already on a yellow card. Despite the fans baying for a red, referee Wisdom takes no further action and chats to Vidic and Gerrard after the whistle.

45' Giggs overhits two passes in quick succession and apologises to his team-mates. We're into the two minutes of stoppage time at the end of the half.
