The opposition Of all United’s tour opponents, LA Galaxy pose the most unfamiliar proposition, owing to their status as a team with only an 18-year history. Upon the inception of the MLS, the Los Angeles Galaxy were formed – so called due to the fact that Hollywood is the home of the ‘stars’ – in order to enter a brand new team into the league. The MLS officially began in 1996 and during the intervening 18 years, 'Los Galacticos’ have scooped numerous honours, including the CONCACAF Champions League in 2000. United fans will be most familiar with the Galaxy on account of the 2007 acquisition of Reds legend David Beckham. The midfielder made 98 appearances during a five-year stay in LA and scored 18 goals.

Previous meetings This will be the first time United have faced the Galaxy, even though they have previously come up against a number of Galaxy players, including Landon Donovan, in the MLS All-Stars tour matches in 2010 and 2011.

Head coach Born in Brooklyn, Bruce Arena has been the man at the helm since 2008. Arena was drafted in to replace Ruud Gullit and Alexi Lalas as the roles of head coach and general manager were combined.
