Trophy tour visits Africa

Story updated 02/04/2012

Nineteen-times league champions Manchester United have teamed up with one of its principal partners DHL to bring the DHL Champ19ns Trophy Tour to Africa.

Former United players Gary Bailey and Quinton Fortune will accompany the Premier League trophy across the African continent as DHL delivers the silverware from the first event in Johannesburg on 2 April, through to the last stop in Dakar, Senegal on 14 April. The Trophy Tour will also cover key cities in Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Ghana.

Whilst in Johannesburg, Bailey and Fortune will attend the official DHL Champ19ns Trophy Tour press conference, before joining a special event organised for DHL employees and key customers.

Fans can have their photo taken with the trophy and the two former United players on Monday 2 April at Montecasino, Fourways, Johannesburg from 18:30 - 22:30 local time.

Another photo opportunity will follow on Tuesday 3 April when Quinton Fortune takes the trophy to the Apartheid Museum in Northern Parkway and Gold Reef Road, Ormonde, Johannesburg at 11:00 local time.

With over 30million dedicated fans across Africa this is a unique opportunity for them to engage with the club as it visits each of the cities. Fans will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with the coveted trophy and former players during various events including fan parties and in-store activity.

As its official logistics partner, DHL plays a key role behind the scenes when it comes to delivering success for Manchester United. After successful tours of Latin America, parts of Asia and not forgetting Manchester, the DHL Champ19ns Trophy Tour will be delivered to 27 destinations including India, Turkey, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Africa and Norway. The trophy will travel almost 48,000 miles, giving fans across the globe the opportunity to celebrate the club’s record
