United employee Rob James is taking part in a gruelling seven-day, 150 mile (250km) race across the Atacama Desert, renowned as the driest place on Earth.

United man runs desert race

Reds employee Rob James is about to embark on a gruelling seven-day race across the Atacama Desert in aid of the Manchester United Foundation.

Anyone who sponsors Rob - and therefore donates to the Foundation - will be entered into a prize draw to win two tickets to watch United's final home game against West Ham, a signed shirt or a signed football. Donations can be made at

Rob, United's marketing manager in Asia, said: "It's great to be supporting the Foundation by doing something I enjoy. The Atacama Crossing is really challenging but my biggest worry is how to get the Villa and Roma results when I’m in the desert!"

John Shiels, Manchester United Foundation chief executive, said: "We wish Rob luck as he embarks on one of the toughest journeys of his life. We're proud to be associated with him. He's the picture of hard work and dedication and an excellent role model for young people."

1. This prize draw is operated by Manchester United Foundation (Trading) Limited (“MU Foundation”). Entry into the draw confirms your acceptance of the following rules.

All individuals visiting and donating £1 or more will be entered into the prize draw for a chance to win either a signed shirt, signed ball or tickets to see Manchester United v West Ham on 3 May 2008 (date subject to change).
