A different dimension

United will officially be in a different dimension this weekend, as pubs across England screen Sky Sports' live 3D coverage of the Reds' potentially pivotal clash with Chelsea, in a landmark occasion for sports broadcasting.

Back in January, nine pubs screened United's dismantling of Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in 3D. That was a world first, and this weekend's escalation of coverage takes place on the first ever dedicated 3D channel in Europe.

Over 1,000 pubs have signed up for the landmark event, and Sky Sports' Director of Operations Darren Long explains: “We’ve been testing 3D at various games for nearly two years now including the game in January at the Emirates.

"We’ve come a long way in a short space of time and it’s been a steep learning curve, but we’ll continue to work with clubs during the summer as we look to fine tune the operation in terms of prospective camera positions which will result in a better viewing experience.”
