The boss relishes the return of some Treble heroes to Old Trafford...
United Relief Live next Saturday, 1 May, promises to be a great day out. Are you looking forward to it?
Yes, I am, because many of the players from our 1999 team are going to be there. I think it will be a very special occasion. I’m hoping for a good attendance. We’ve got a great fan base, and the fact we’re not playing until the next day, at Sunderland, may help. We’re staging this charity game for all the right reasons and I’m sure the fans will want to come and remember the great times we had with players like Cole, Yorke, Stam and Johnsen.
It'll be great to see Cole and Yorke at OT again. How good were they in 1999?
They were fantastic, especially that season when they scored 52 goals between them. I think they were the best in Europe at the time, they were unbelievable. It was a partnership that just took off, immediately. I don’t know why, the chemistry or something just clicked between the two of them but it developed into an unbelievable partnership. They were so effective I found difficulty, great difficulty, in keeping Sheringham and Solskjaer happy. I was fortunate to have four great strikers, even if it sometimes created headaches for me!
Are you hoping the event will raise lots of money for charity?
That's the main object. The club does fantastic work through the Foundation and our link-up with UNICEF. I think the event will bring in a lot of money for a good cause.
