United legend Gary Pallister may not have had the chance to play alongside Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra, but he’ll be teaming up with the pair for a fundraising lunch at Old Trafford in February.
The International Suite will play host to the event, in aid of the Manchester United Foundation, on Monday 7 February at 12 noon with TV presenter and lifelong Red Eamonn Holmes acting as compère for the day. Guests will be treated to a three-course meal and a question-and-answer session with the trio, who will be discussing their illustrious playing careers and any other footballing matters.
"We’re all really looking forward to the event, although I’ll definitely be leaving the tricky questions to Nemanja and Patrice," joked Pallister. "It’s a great opportunity for us to meet the fans and, of course, it’s for a great cause as well.
"Since they came to the club, Nemanja and Patrice have developed into two of the top defenders in the world and they’re right up there with some of the best we’ve ever had at this club. They’re consistent performers who have helped the team be very successful over the last few years and I’m sure they’ll have some great tales to tell."
Vidic’s partnership with Rio Ferdinand at the heart of the defence is often mentioned in the same breath as Pally’s famous alliance with Steve Bruce. And the former Red admits he would have loved to have played alongside the current United skipper.
"He’s a lot like Steve – very determined, strong and good on the ball," Pallister added. "It’s great to play with someone who is so committed – I was fortunate to have Steve like Rio is with Vidic."
The last two lunches, involving (among others) Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, Denis Irwin and Nobby Stiles, have proved hugely popular – and the 2011 event promises to be another exciting occasion.
