Manchester United have acquired at auction medals and memorabilia relating to Nobby Stiles’ glittering football career.
Collyhurst-born Stiles, who played 395 times for the Reds, lifted the World Cup with England in 1966 and the European Cup with United in 1968. Alongside Sir Bobby Charlton and Ian Callaghan, he’s the only Englishman to have won both tournaments.
On Thursday, representatives from the club purchased Stiles’ medals, as well as a number of shirts and caps won during his 15-year professional career.
A United spokesperson said: “We’re delighted to have acquired these items, which possess tremendous historical significance for Manchester United and English football, and look forward to proudly displaying them in our museum.”
