Trophy on local tour

Some of Manchester United Foundation’s local charity and education partners shared in the Reds’ 20th title success recently, when the Premier League trophy was taken on a special tour of the city.

Club mascot Fred The Red escorted the silverware on its travels, giving fans the chance to have their photograph taken with it. For example, at The Christie hospital, the trophy was displayed in the conservatory before being taken onto the Young Oncology Unit – the specialist teenage and young adult cancer wing, for which MU Foundation helps to raise funds in order to improve facilities.

Twenty year-old out-patient Chris Heyes from Preston commented on the ‘perfect timing’ of the visit as he happened to be on the ward at the time to receive chemotherapy treatment.

“To see the trophy and to have my picture taken with it is a great experience,” said Chris. “It is amazing to see the way United supports The Christie, it puts a smile on everyone’s faces. And when it’s your favourite football team doing it, it’s an extra bonus!”
