On 17 October, Bryan Robson will lead a team of trekkers up Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of the MU Foundation. Here, Captain Marvel gives an update on training and explains why the heroic challenge was actually his idea...
Specifically, what kind of training have you done?
The team has done lots of endurance work at the Aon Training Complex, where we were also given a stern talking to by our trek leader… I think a few eyes were opened that day! As well as that, we’ve done some circuit training at Scammonden reservoir and most recently climbed Mount Snowdon in Wales, which was great preparation. The most incredible part is collecting all of the equipment we’ve got to carry; you wouldn’t believe how much you need to climb a mountain. We must be mad.
So what convinced you take part?
It’s an event to raise money for charity, so it’s a no-brainer. I was heavily involved in organising the Legends match against Real Madrid in the summer, which was a great success and raised around £950,000. Then, I just felt another challenge would appeal to me.
