A team of Manchester United legends, including Paul Scholes and Dwight Yorke, will take on their Bayern Munich counterparts at Allianz Arena on 9 August as part of a special charity event.
The present-day German champions will take part in an open training session in front of a capacity crowd before the players of yesteryear test their mettle against each other. They’ll be bidding to turn back the clock and recreate some of the clubs’ epic meetings down the years, including the dramatic 1999 Champions League final.
Bayern legend and 1974 World Cup winner Paul Breitner will lead the German side, while Owen Hargreaves, Paulo Sérgio and Marc van Bommel will also pull on their boots for the occasion. As well as Scholes and Yorke, Bryan Robson, Edwin van der Sar, Andy Cole, Ronny Johnsen and Quinton Fortune are among the players who will turn out for the Reds.
Tickets are on sale now for €5 (booking fees and postage apply) via the FC Bayern online ticket shop. Proceeds from the sales will go to an Allianz foundation for children. Every year Allianz, as well as its employees and agents, support more than 200 regional projects for children and young people in Germany.
FC Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge commented: “I am sure that the event will be a very special one.”
