Inside United caught up with Reds prospect Jesse Lingard for an exclusive interview...
You must be glad to have made the short-list for Reserves’ Player of the Year at the end of last season?
Yeah, I’ve done well all season but I think everyone deserves it. We’ve given 100 percent and it was up to the fans to decide.
There’s great team spirit among the lads isn’t there?
We’ve been together since we were 11 and the foreign lads came in at Under-18 and we’ve all bonded really well. We won the Youth Cup last year and won the league now so it’s been good experience for us all.
The youngsters have taken well to Reserves football..
Yes, in the Dallas Cup, we were unlucky but nobody would ever have thought we’d win the league in our first year in the Reserves. We’ve proved them wrong.
Do you think it’s surprised a few people?
I think we’ve all pushed on more than everyone thought. We’ve really all grown and got stronger and are doing well on the field. We’re winning games and there’s not much more you can ask for.
There’s had to be patience as you were one of the players who the staff said needed time to develop physically. So is it even more satisfying now?
"I’ve just been watching other people, experienced players and how they finish and try to add that to my game. I’ve been practising after training and it’s worked."
