Phil Jones explains why he can't wait for Monday's clash with Chelsea, the first home match of 2013/14...
Everything about playing at Old Trafford is special; you get goosebumps each time you step onto the pitch. We’re used to it, but who knows what players from other teams feel like when they get out there!
I still remember my first home game for United and walking out of the tunnel felt brilliant. The only other time I’d played at Old Trafford before then was for Blackburn when we lost 7-1. Walking out as a United player was a great feeling and a moment I’ll never forget. Sir Alex told me I was playing a few days earlier so I was a bit apprehensive on the way to the ground, wondering how the match would pan out and how I’d do. But as soon as it kicked off, I settled down and we won 3-0 [against Tottenham], so it was a good day.
We can’t wait to get back out at Old Trafford on Monday night and play in front of our fans again, they always give us such great support. And what a game to start with... Chelsea. When the fixtures come out, these are the games you look for, you look forward to these matches. We know Chelsea are a good team and the ‘Mourinho factor’, of course, adds a little bit spice to the game. But it’s a challenge we relish.
Last weekend’s win at Swansea has boosted everyone; it was a great way to start. We knew it was going to be tough, but to win 4-1 and create as many chances as we did was very positive. Hopefully we can produce a similar performance against Chelsea. Being champions gives us confidence, but you can't think about last season. It’s about looking forward and doing it again. Other teams are fighting for that top spot and we know we’ve got to be at our very best again. Bring it on, I say.
