Whether or not he's fit to play a part in United's final two league games, it's been a remarkable season for Wayne Rooney.

As the focal point of the Reds' attack, the 24-year-old has emphatically answered the question of how Sir Alex Ferguson would compensate for the loss of Cristiano Ronaldo's goals.

Rooney set the ball rolling in the Community Shield against Chelsea in August and hasn't looked back, netting a superb 34 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions.

His haul has included five braces, a hat-trick at Portsmouth and that wonderful four-bagger against Hull in January.

Earlier this year even Sir Alex was moved to say: "'World-class' is a misused term, but with Rooney, you have to say he is getting to the point where he is now one of the best players in the world."
